Haryana’s gesture to Bihar flood-hit

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar on Monday urged various States to work jointly to ensure rapid development of the country.

Addressing a large gathering at Shahpur Mushhari village in Sahrsa district of Bihar, where they dedicated to the people of Bihar development works undertaken by the district administration of Sonepat in Haryana to rehabilitate flood-affected people, Mr. Hooda also announced grant of Rs.5 crore out of the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for implementation of shelter scheme in Bihar, an official release issued by the Haryana Government here said.

It said the shelter scheme in Bihar had been introduced by Mr. Nitish Kumar.

Mr. Hooda urged the people of various States to rise above parochial differences of region, religion and political interests and work in unity. He emphasised the need for framing constructive policies at the national level to meet the threats posed by natural calamities like floods.

He said both Haryana and Bihar had rich cultural heritage. “While Kurukshetra in Haryana is known for the celestial message of Bhagwad Gita given to Arjuna by Lord Krishna, Bihar is known for the message of non-violence given by Lord Buddha,” he added.

Mr. Hooda appreciated the outstanding work done by the officers of the Sonepat district administration for rehabilitation of flood victims and announced grant of two increments to SDO Jasbir Singh and two Junior Engineers, Vinod Kumar and Anil Kumar of the Panchayat and Development Department. He also announced promotion of Head Constable Shamsher Singh as Assistant Sub-Inspector. He also gave away cheques of Rs.35,000 each to Bhupinder Jha, Neelam Devi, Kanchan Devi, Nand Kishore and Shamo Devi for construction of their houses.

He inaugurated a community centre constructed at Mushhari and handed over keys to five owners of houses.

Mr. Nitish Kumar said that the floods had rendered 10 lakh people homeless during the past year and out of these 4.5 lakh were shifted to camps.

He appreciated Mr. Hooda’s gesture in not only sending relief supplies to Bihar but also launching rehabilitation drive.

He said his government had decided to construct such shelters in flood-prone areas which would be earthquake-resistant.

Chand-Fiza theatre: Act II, Scene I

Mohali, June 14
A reel life story is unfolding in the real life of lovelorn couple, Chand Mohammed (Chander Mohan) and Fiza (Anuradha Bali).

After months of war of words through the media, the former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister was back with Fiza, surprising many. Taking a U-turn, the Kalka MLA reached Fiza’s Sector 48 house here and apologised to her before the media. Fiza’s mother bartered peace between the couple when he came knocking at her door this morning.

Though Fiza looked happy over the turn of events, as she might have desired, the MLA seemed uncomfortable facing pointed queries of mediapersons. Breaking his silence, he said, “I have apologised to her. I have not divorced her. Whatever else I said earlier was under pressure.”

But his ladylove did not accept his apology. “I still do not believe him. I will think over his apology,” she said. She made it clear that she had not made up her mind on forgiving him so far.

Cops posted outside Fiza’s house attacked

Over 30 persons attacked two cops posted outside Fiza alias Anuradha Bali’s house at Sector 48 in Mohali on Sunday night. Sources said the accused first brutally thrashed constable Ram Swaroop and then attacked the other cop, who opened fire in self-defence, resulting in an injury to one of the attackers, who has been identified as Ashok. He has been hospitalised. The identity of other assailants could not be established. Notably, Fiza had asked for police security alleging threat to her life. A case has been registered against three persons and a Bolero jeep has been impounded, said SSP JS Aulakh

Fiza is scheduled to leave for Malaysia to participate in a reality show in the next few days. On being asked on withdrawing criminal complaints against him, she said she was yet to make up her mind. “I will think about living with him again. He had been misled by others,” said Fiza.

Sitting alongside Fiza, Chand said, “I have come to live with her. I do not want go back to Seema.” Fiza said, “My claim of his family sabotaging our married life has been vindicated by his return and his statement that whatever he said or did after returning from London was under duress.”

While tendering apology, he had also requested her not to pursue legal cases against his family members, Fiza said.
